Within the EFTA framework (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland), Switzerland signed today the Free Trade Agreement with the Philippines. This is the second FTA with an ASEAN country (Singapore) and the fourth FTA with in Asia country (Hong Kong, Singapore, South-Korea). Entry into force is planned for mid 2017.
The FTA was negotiated in five rounds only and this within 12 months – quite impressive.
Besides the EFTA agreements Switzerland is in the good position to have the FTAs with China and Japan. This ensures a broad coverage of free trade over a large part of Asia. Swiss companies should therefore investigate the potential opportunities of free trade and investments in Asia.
More details will follow as soon as the official text is published. The official communication can be found here: https://www.news.admin.ch/message/index.html?lang=de&msg-id=61533
As always, further FTA topics will follow.
